8. A Death In The Family
Possibly the most iconic Robin story to stand the test of time, A Death in the Family featured the tragic death of Jason Todd.
There are two elements that make this issue particularly stand out the first of which is the brutal manner of his untimely end. Beaten to death at the hands of the Joker, Jason is pummelled by a now-infamous crowbar after being betrayed by his mother.
The second is that fans actually voted for this horrific event to happen. After a less than warm welcome to a new Robin on the scene, DC left Jason's fate up to the readers. It is hard to believe one of the most influential storylines was essentially left to a coin toss.
A Death in the Family has had a lasting effect on the Batverse ever since. No Batcave is now complete without the haunting image of Jason's tattered costume symbolising Batman's greatest defeat.
