Then:

The Cordelia Chase viewers met in episode one was an entitled, snobbish, Bully. Nice to those she wished to impress or those she could get something out of, and evil incarnate to everybody else. However, as the series progressed, and also on spin-off show Angel, Cordelia became one of the most popular characters and a hero in her own right.

Now:

Buffy #2 introduces readers to Cordelia. Her opening line, “My! This really is a beautiful library! I don’t come in nearly enough!”, is jarring for original fans. Cordelia warmly introduces herself to Buffy despite them having no classes together, as there’s “no reason to not make a new friend”.

In the interest of openness, Cordelia is currently campaigning for class president and gives Buffy a campaign button. She makes herself available if Buffy needs help, followed by the humble-brag that it’s her duty “as Ms. Sunnydale 2017 and 2018”.

In complete contrast to the TV’s opener, Cordy hugs her campaign rival Willow and wishes her luck. Willow remarks to Rose: “why does she have to be so nice and beautiful and smart?”
