If theres one thing the Big Two love more than killing off a major character and vehemently insisting that its totes for real, guys, Superman is gone forever and hes *snort* never coming back because what is, our flagship character who brings in all our money and this is just a cheap attempt at raising even more revenue than usual, cmon, its reboots. Big old, universe-altering reboots that radically change characters and actually do stay that way. DC have been doing it roughly every couple of years ever since it tried to coalesce its vast number of alternate realities in Crisis On Infinite Earths, with their upcoming crossover events looking like theyre gonna hit the reset button in some fashion soon: Grant Morrisons The Multiversity and the forthcoming Convergence both deal with the infinite Earths coming into crisis again, so. More surprising is the speculation that Marvel might be doing the same. The culmination of those Hickman incursion stories and Secret Wars could wind up acting as a soft reboot for the Marvel Universe, possibly to bring it more in line with those seen in the movies and - as was the intention with the New 52 - appealing to new readers. Marvel arent quite as reboot-happy as DC have been in the past, but theyve had their moments. And 2015 could be another one.
