10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With
4. Iron Man
When a superhero gets a boost in popularity, it's common practice for the writers to focus on them a bit more and let them play more centre-stage. When Iron Man sales skyrocketed during the millennium, it was like the Marvel staff had ten great ideas and someone said, "Hey, why don't we just do all of them... at the same time". Iron Man turns evil? Check. Has a secret brother? Done. Learns his parents weren't really his parents? Why not? Left in a coma? Of course.
And while Iron Man was comatose, he was replaced by a teenage girl called Ironheart. But guess what? One year later, Doctor Doom became the new Iron Man! And just when you thought the story couldn't get more convoluted, Stark's secret brother became the NEW new Iron Man. This means that there have been three new Iron Men in two years!
I'm not suggesting that these stories are bad or dumb. It just seems like the writers aren't taking their time. They don't have to create a new revelation every second issue. Spread it out. Tell a smaller story. And please... no new Iron Men for at least a few years...
