10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With

5. Animal Man

Spider-Woman New Outfit
DC Comics

As Animal Man, Buddy Baker can take on the characteristics of any animal. He may have started off as a standard superhero but when legendary writer Grant Morrison took over the series, he breathed new life into Animal Man. Morrison made the superhero more relatable by giving him a wife and child; an idea rarely seen in comics at the time. Morrison's series was only meant to run for four issues but it received so much praise, it received a two-year extension.

Just to prove the character wasn't a one-trick pony, Animal Man was one of the strongest series during the DC's New 52 reboot. Even though he's an obscure character, his series was among the best-selling comics of 2011. Sadly, interest eventually waned and the series was canceled after 30 issues.

Since his series ended, he has served little purpose in DC storylines except as a reserve member of the Justice League. To Animal Man fans, it seems blasphemous to see such a phenomenal character resorted to nothing more than a glorified cameo. With DC rebooting the universe again this year (more on that later), Animal Man will hopefully play a bigger role in the future.
