10 Comic Book Characters Who Are Just TOO POWERFUL!

8. The Sentry

Kingdom Come Superman
Marvel Comics

The Sentry is Superman with an inferiority complex and a breakdown away from destroying Earth.

Marvel's version of the ultimate hero has all Superman's powers (super strength, flight, and invulnerability), plus whatever powers he develops at the whim of writers. To this point those include absolute regeneration from injuries, teleportation, energy manipulation, telepathy, the ability to resurrect the dead, and 'the power of one million exploding suns.' (His 'Powers and abilities' list on Wikipedia is something else.)

Essentially, he is a joke character that writers use when they need a deus ex machina.

The Sentry's only weakness is his equally powerful alter-ego, The Void, who is dedicated to killing the same number of people Sentry saves. Both were created in 2000 with a backstory: in the '60s and '70s, The Void was considered such a threat that in Marvel canon Sentry was locked away, even though he was friends with many of Earth's heroes.

The Sentry also wiped the memories of everyone on Earth, including himself, about his existence. He stayed that way until 2000 when he sensed The Void returning and remembered who he was, coming 'back' into Marvel continuity.

Basically, The Sentry can do anything and everything as needed by Marvel.
