Comics: The Ultimates (Multiple Issues)

What Happened: In the Ultimate Universe, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are twins, just as they are in the Earth-616 Marvel Universe. They are close like they are in the main continuity, but for most people, they are way too close.

It was always hinted at in Earth-1610 that the two got a little too close for comfort, but for multiple issues, the readers were left to fill in the blanks. When Jeph Loeb decided to fill in those gaps, the depth of their relationship was put on broad display, and their closeness went way too far.

The two were having sex. A lot. This wasn't something that the people around them thought to be a cute quirk or anything—everyone was pretty much horrified by the revelation that the two were in an incestuous relationship. The books even hinted that Wolverine was their true father, and in one scene, he watches them have sex, which takes the whole thing one step further than it ever needed to go.

Why Was It Insulting: Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch have always been close, as twins often are, but in the Ultimate Universe, they were way too close. Their relationship has been dubbed as being "Twincestuous," which pretty much says everything you need to know about why this depiction of the two characters is insulting to the readers.
