Comic: All-Star Batman and Robin #7

What Happened: Batman arrives on the scene at the beginning of the book and proceeds to give a bunch of thugs a chemistry lesson. The group was in the process of stealing a shipment of bleach... for some reason, and The Dark Knight wasn't about to let them get away with it!

He proceeds to beat the crap out of them all, as Batman does, but before he finishes, he lets the thugs know how dangerous bleach actually is. He uses the chemical to burn them, and as they are writhing in agony, sustaining disfiguring, and possibly deadly burns, Bats heads over to Black Canary.

After a bit of casual conversation, the two get it on with the burning goons screaming for their lives in the background.

Why Was It Insulting: The modern depiction of Batman has one basic rule: never kill anyone. This has set him apart from a lot of characters in the DC Universe. After all, Superman has wasted people, but Batman always refuses.

Did burning these guys with bleach kill them? Perhaps not, but the act of doing so was incredibly against his character, a lot of fans were insulted by the depiction. Also, it didn't make the situation any less offensive when he and Black Canary had sex in front of a group of burning bad guys.
