10 Comic Books To Read If You Love Young Justice

6. Blue Beetle 1: Metamorphosis

Young Justice Peter David
DC Comics

The original Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, was powerless and used his intelligence to get things done. However, he happens to get his hands on a form of alien technology from The Reach. Realizing it was a possible issue, he refused to use it but knew it needed to be tested.

Knowing of Kord’s possession of it, someone blows up his lab and sends the Reach’s scarab flying. At this same point, a kid by the name of Jaime Reyes checks out what occurred and picks up the scarab. It quickly attaches itself to him, in a bid to have a proper host.

With Ted Kord dead, and the only real person with knowledge of the technology, Reyes has to deal with this issue on his own. It was not his choice, nor was the inner voice provided. Jaime is still a kid, of course, and has to deal with normal teen drama.

Between school, family, and teaching the scarab to be a force for good, Jamie Reyes seems to have a full-time job on his hands. Now the Blue Beetle, Reyes has to work through all of this while also keeping the scarab out of the hands of those who wish to use it for evil.
