10 Comics Fates Worse Than Death

8. Trapped On A Single World Unable To Save His Own

Ghost Rider Penance Stare
Marvel Comics

The Silver Surfer began his superpowered career as Galactus' herald, and while working in this capacity, he enjoyed surfing the cosmos, traveling through black holes, and resting in the center of stars. His Power Cosmic gave him the ability to do pretty much anything, and travel wherever he wanted to go.

That all changed when he defied his master after scouting out Earth as a potential planet, he could feed off of, and Galactus wasn't happy. The Surfer helped the Fantastic Four secure the Ultimate Nullifier from Galactus' ship, and when Reed Richards wielded it against the World-Eater, he had no choice but to back down.

Of course, Galactus wasn't stupid, and he immediately knew his herald had forsaken him. To punish the Surfer, Galactus trapped him on Earth, making it impossible for him to leave the atmosphere, to once again surf the cosmos, but that wasn't the only thing he did.

He also informed his former herald that Zenn-La, the planet Galactus swore to never feed off of, was no longer off the table. The Surfer's homeworld was now fair game, and there was nothing he could do to stop his former master.

The Surfer truly suffered anguish and horror at this prospect, and it would be some time before he was released from his entrapment.
