10 Comics Fates Worse Than Death
2. The Penance Stare
Ghost Rider is an interesting character, seeing as he's the combination of a man who sold his soul and a demon. What's more interesting is the fact that his only real goal in life is to punish the wicked, and that's exactly what he does in the comics.
To do this, he has several tools in his arsenal, including a standard set of superhuman enhancements to strength, stamina, durability, and agility. He's also able to heal from just about any injury, can manipulate Hellfire, and launch all sorts of attacks, making him an unstoppable machine of justice.
When it comes time to deal with a bad guy up close and personal, Ghost Rider has several abilities at his command, which make it possible to detect sin, identify people based on their transgressions, and zero in on the worst things they have done in their lives, and turn it back against them.
He does this through his Penance Stare, which involves looking directly into the eyes of his foes. When he does this, that person then feels all of the pain and suffering they had ever inflicted on anyone throughout their lifetimes, and they feel it all at once, and for all eternity.
It's not something they don't deserve, but it certainly is a fate worse than death.
