10 Comics Fates Worse Than Death

1. Gamma Radiation Doesn't Turn You Into A Hulk IRL

In the Marvel Universe, it seems all anyone needs to do to score some dope superpowers is to bathe in radiation for a little bit. It worked for Daredevil, and it gave Spider-Man his powers, thanks to a radiated spider-bite, but for Bruce Banner, he stood on the edge of a Gamma Ray Bomb.

The blast transformed him into a creature of pure rage and strength known as the Incredible Hulk, but what would have happened in the real world? Certainly, he wouldn't become a green rage monster, but he would probably score a few nasty tumors and shorten his lifespan considerably.

This concept is explored in the Marvel miniseries Ruins, which explores what would have happened to the Marvel Universe's characters had they not received a superpower upgrade after interacting with radiation, and the single worst fate to befall anyone in that universe is the one that hits Dr. Bruce Banner.

He was transformed, but instead of becoming a Hulk, he turned into a gigantic mass of tumors that turned much of his body inside-out. What's worse is the fact that he continued to live through constant agony with no hope of death or healing. According to Rick Jones, h remains in a CIA facility, where he's kept alive to be studied.
