10 Comics That Took Their Characters To New Heights In 2017

6. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

Black Panther Storm
Marvel Comics/Erica Henderson

She’s not known as unbeatable just for the sake of it, but although Squirrel Girl has taken down the likes of Thanos in her time, her self-titled series has more than a little tongue-in-cheek to it.

That’s what gives Doreen Green’s often-animal-inspired adventures an edge of its own, though, and 2017 continued the lighthearted motif that’s already made hers one of Marvel’s stronger performers since its 2015 release.

The team of Ryan North (writer), Erica Henderson (artist), Rico Renzi (colourist) and Travis Lanham (letterer) continue to make The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl an innovative and engaging comic that not only provides punch and action but asks questions of its readers, not to mention being downright funny.

More so than Squirrel Girl making any substantial changes to herself or the writers altering her arc, 2017 simply evolved the character through more of the same great work already being put into the series.

And who can’t love a comic book that introduced us to Dinosaur Ultron?
