10 Comics That Took Their Characters To New Heights In 2017
7. Batman
Writer Tom King enjoyed a prolific 2017 across multiple publications, and his work on Batman over the course of the year is a definite stand out.
Without doubt the biggest development in the Caped Crusader’s story was his engagement to Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and it almost goes without saying just how unsettling a plot point that may be for some readers of the comic who’d struggle to grasp Bats would ever want a wife in this day and age.
It’s almost ironic that as dark as the Batman series has been in recent years and still can be, it’s now that King decided would be the time for him to try such a strong hand in romance - at least to the extent of marrying the Cat.
More traditionally, Batman raged against the Joker and the Riddler for much of 2017 in the War of Jokes and Riddles, the same story arc that gave us one of the most heartbreaking character revamps in recent memory with Kite Man, who's all of a sudden found a soft spot in many a reader's heart.
That’s all without mentioning the incredibly well received Batman/Elder Fudd Special, proof that even Gotham isn’t too dark for the Looney Tunes.
