Before her Inhuman powers were activated by the Terrigen mist, Kamala Khan didn't exactly have a lot going for her. She was a nerdy teenage Muslim girl, obsessed with fanfiction, growing up in the modern day USA.

Whether it was overly strict parents, school bullies, or a society that generally looked down upon her, she was always fated to live a life filled with more obstacles than most.

Thankfully for her, she randomly won the genetic lottery when her latent Inhuman DNA transformed her into Ms. Marvel. This gave her a new view on life, and how to live it to the full despite the many obstacles she faced.

Josh Richardson was living the reverse image of Kamala's life. He was Coles Academic High's All-American sweetheart: a hunky, popular jock with a legion of admirers and a gorgeous girlfriend. Unlike Kamala, he had everything going for him, and everyone (including himself) expected him to thrive.

That's why he couldn't handle it when things got difficult. Josh was raised to believe that he deserved the world and was capable of having it. When that didn't work out, he saw no other option but to join the Mayor's mini-legion of supervillains, gaining powers from a high-tech suit designed specifically for him.

While Kamala feels blessed by the opportunity to escape her difficult life, Josh feels he has been cheated out of his perfect one. The two will always be linked by their shared high school experience, but driven apart by their new paths in life.
