10 DC Superheroes With Tortured Pasts
5. Green Arrow
He may be a millionaire playboy (some of the time), but there is no doubting that Oliver Queen has some serious issues haunting his past. The main one being, of course, the whole having to survive on a deserted island with only a bow and arrow for company and protection.
No matter which version of Green Arrow is your jumping off point, they all pretty much start the same. An often arrogant and spoiled Oliver Queen does something unbelievably stupid, such as falling off a boat for example, and washes up on Starfish Island.
Here he has to survive by hunting with his bow, as well as using it to protect himself, while all the time fighting off the madness that can come with far too much solitude, before he finally makes it back to civilization, one way or another.
This is the catalyst for his career as Green Arrow, even though therapy would be a lot easier, and it's a great story of redemption as the young fool grows into a true hero. But his story doesn't end here.
There's also the little case of Roy "Speedy" Harper, his side-kick who takes to heroin like a duck to water, which, in turns forces Oliver to react with great compassion by throwing him out on the street.
So, yeah, he's got that to live with as well.
