The DC universe was shaken to its very core in 2019, as the Anti-Life Equation found a new way to take hold. Readers couldn't tear themselves away from DCeased, even as their favourite heroes were taken out at an insane pace.

As Darksied attempts to extract the Anti-Life Equation from Cyborg, the virus becomes corrupted and infects the villain, who throws himself into Apokolips' core, destroying himself and the planet. Cyborg is sent back to Metropolis, where the virus manages to infiltrate the world's internet.

From there, things go from bad to worse as millions upon millions are infected through their phone, computer or TV screen. For those who remain, there was little they could do to stop it, all they could do is try to escape Earth.

Thankfully, this is all happening in an alternate universe, avoiding mainline continuity, but that doesn't make it any less haunting watching Batman have his neck ripped into by the teeth of his once-protégé.

Since the initial event, writer Tom Taylor has continued on his sadistic streak of death and violence with spin-offs and a sequel, as he works as hard as he can to make sure there isn't a single character left in the DC universe.
