10 Dumbest Changes Made To Iconic Comic Characters

Justice League Detroit is the unofficial name for the embarrassing period in Justice League history where all its big name heroes were replaced by terrible stereotypes.

The idea for the team came during the mid-1980's when teams of young superheroes like the X-Men and Teen Titans were popular and so to capitalise on that, the Justice League were moved to a new headquarters in Detroit and all its big name heroes were replaced by new characters in their 20's.

These characters included Vixen, a totem-powered African, Vibe, a break-dancing former gang member who fell out of the Hispanic stereotype tree and hit every branch on the way down and Gypsy, a character who named herself after a slur for the culture that she decided to appropriate.

They were joined by Zatanna, Elongated Man, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman (who had to later leave due to marital troubles) and another new character Steel. Not the iron-plated friend of Superman, this Steel was the grandson of WWII hero Commander Steel and had super-strength. You've probably already forgotten the last sentence because Steel was so boring that the human mind is incapable of retaining information about him.

The team's stories were plagued with heavy handed attempts to tackle current-day problems like gang culture and issues sold poorly leading to its cancellation. In the final story, Vibe and Steel were both killed and everyone else resigned. It was a depressing end to an ill-advised series.
