10 Famous Comics You Won't Believe Were Cancelled

1. Fantastic Four

Marvel Comics / Alex Ross

The Fantastic Four are nowhere near as popular as they once were but there are many devoted readers that will always have a soft spot for them. At the end of the day, the FF will always be Marvel's first superheroes.

That's why fans were baffled when their series ended in 2014. Why would Marvel do that to their own creation?

And the answer is: to jeopardise the 2015 film adaption, Fant4stic. Because the property was owned by Fox at the time, it's generally believed that Marvel pulled the Fantastic Four from shells so as not to promote a competitor.

Marvel have never confirmed the real reason one way or another, but the Four's cancellation also coincided with Marvel's attempts to replace the X-Men (whose onscreen rights were owned by 20th Century Fox) with the Inhumans.

In August 2018, the Fantastic Four comic was finally relaunched, mere months before Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Funny that.
