10 Greatest Batman Comics Of The 21st Century

8. Under The Hood

Batman Court Of Owls
DC Comics

Under the Hood is a massive fan favorite that changes Batman's entire universe. Written by Judd Winick with art by Doug Mahnke, the ripples caused by this story are still being felt in comics today.

Winick was part of a group of writers tasked with reshaping the DC Universe into something different, and he helped kick off a great age of comics for the company. One of his most substantial contributions was to bring Jason Todd, a former Robin, back to life as the Red Hood. The guise of the Red Hood had once been used by the Joker, who later beat Todd to death.

Todd's death has always been viewed by Batman as his greatest failure, and resurrecting him was just another way of twisting the knife on Batman. Red Hood is morally ambiguous and is willing to go further than Batman on his war against crime. Batman has to juggle the need to save Jason and stop him simultaneously.

Red Hood has become a huge player in the DC Universe, and that never would have happened without the high quality of this story.
