8. Batman: The Long Halloween

An all-time classic from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, the Long Halloween is already believed to be a major influence on the upcoming Batman movie. And honestly, you just have to take one look at the plot to know why.

The perfect detective story, it has everything from ordered assassinations, a corrupt system on the verge of collapse, and an unknown assailant terrorizing even the most powerful of bad guys.

The primary antagonist is once more mafia head honcho Carmine Falcone, with the likes of Catwoman, Harvey Dent and Jim Gordon all playing prominent roles. A new player enters the fray when some of Falcone’s top lieutenants start getting taken out one by one, with no one, not even Batman knowing the identity of attacker.

If Matt Reeves does indeed want to create a classic Batman movie, then this is the classic arc to adapt.
