10 Iconic DC/Marvel Characters Who Originated Outside The Comics

9. Red X

Speaking of fan favorite characters from DC television shows, we now come to Red X, who was introduced in the fantastic Teen Titans animated series from 2003. And while this entry isn't entirely cut and dry, the fact remains that, as a concept, Red X was an entirely original creation of the show.

In season one, Red X was introduced as a new villain who was able to thwart the Titans with ease, the reason being that he was secretly Robin going undercover as a means to get close to and take down Slade (aka Deathstroke).

However, the story doesn't end there, as even after Robin gave up and locked away the Red X gear, it was stolen by an unknown, morally dubious character who took up the Red X mantle. This new Red X would go on to appear in later episodes as well as the show's spin-offs, including New Teen Titans and (regretfully), Teen Titans Go!.

To this very day, the identity of Red X II remains a mystery. Unfortunately, the main DC universe hasn't done much with the character, and the only comics he's appeared in are the ones based on the TV show.

A real shame, considering how much potential he has and how much fans like him.
