Certain characters like Moon Knight have a history of dealing with illnesses as complex as dissociative identity disorder (DID). Since his introduction in 1975, Moon Knight has been depicted with multiple identities. They range from the tough-as-nails mercenary Marc Spector, to the unassuming taxi driver Jake Lockely.

What’s interesting about Moon Knight’s mental health condition is that it could be linked to a change in lunar cycles. There have been various scientific theories to suggest that the moon can turn people insane, which is where the word ‘lunatic’ comes from.

Whatever the source of Moon Knight’s disorder, it hasn’t prevented him from trying to do good.

A recent comic, written by Jeff Lemire, showed Moon Knight confronting all his personalities within an illusionary mental health hospital. By the end of the story, Moon Knight embraced every part of himself, showcasing his determination to move forward with his life, and all aspects of it.
