5. Doctor Octopus
Dr Otto Octavius is one of the oldest Spider-Man villains, appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (1963). Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, he is notably one of Spider-Man's greatest villains alongside the Green Goblin.
As a brilliant engineer and inventor with a genius-level intellect and a mind for strategy, Otto has been responsible for some of Spider-Man's most overwhelming challenges and defeats across Marvel's history.
In addition to his intellect, Octavius uses his four bionic arms to battle formidable heroes, forcing heroes like Captain America, Daredevil and Spider-Man to fight more defensive than usual. From forming the Sinister Six to nearly destroying the world and swapping minds with Spider-Man, it is clear Doctor Octopus is not a villain to be underestimated.
