10 Most Powerful Spider-Man Villains

8. The Lizard

One of the most interesting aspects of the Lizard is that he's actually a rather tragic figure. He started out life as one of Peter Parker's friends and mentors, Dr. Kurt Connors. Due to his research into lizard genetics, he attempted to regrow his lost arm but uncovered a nasty side effect instead.

While his arm did regenerate, he also transformed into a gigantic bipedal lizard who was intent on taking over the world and turning all of the people into lizard beings like himself. He was a true villain to Spider-Man, but he was also one of his closest friends.

Despite this, the two have battled on more than one occasion with Spidey finding his foe to be incredibly strong and resilient. Thanks to his reptilian DNA, the Lizard can heal from just about any wound. He's also strong, comes equipped with razor-sharp claws, huge fangs, and a tail he can use as a devastating weapon.

The Lizard was often subdued thanks to his humanity coming to light whenever Connors' family was threatened, but eventually, the Lizard took over and even ate Connors' son, which was a line he was never able to cross... until he finally did.
