In the beginning, Macdonald "Mac" Gargan was an ordinary private dick hired by J. Jonah Jameson to find out how Peter Parker was able to get such good pictures of Spider-Man all the time. When that ploy failed, Jameson enticed Gargan to take part in an experiment that forever changed him into the supervillain known as Scorpion!

The experiment was designed to provide more animalistic abilities upon humans, and in Gargan's case, that animal was the scorpion. He was outfitted with a special suit, which provided superhuman strength and a prehensile tail. He also gained a sort of "Scorpion Sense" similar to Spidey's precognitive abilities.

While the suit offers increased durability and strength that rivals that of his greatest foe, Scorpion's real power lies in his tail. Like a real scorpion, this is his primary weapon, and it's not merely a stinger like his natural counterpart.

Scorpion's tail has numerous abilities and tools, making it capable of firing electricity, acid, poison, and other deadly attacks. It can be used as a clubbing weapon, and he also has a pincer-like grip he can use to tear through webbing or whatever else might get in his way. He's certainly powerful and has been upgraded over the years to become more deadly.
