Religion and comic books is a tricky thing. It's a controversial topic that's been touched on from time to time, but never really fully explored. Which is a shame, because it would be really interesting to get a proper grip on how faith works in a reality where there are superheroes who seem like deities (or in some case literally are), and there's direct evidence of "New Gods" messing with all our business. Another creation of Jack Kirby that got absorbed into the mainstream DC Universe, the likes of Darkseid and his denizens of Apokolips had killed off the previous supreme beings and took their place. So there are definitely gods in the world of Superman, and half of them have popped their clogs. Things get more confusing when you take a look at the Multiversity map and see that both "Heaven" and "Hell" get given their own designations amongst the various alternate Earths, albeit in the outer "sphere of gods". Which also includes Apokolips and the homes of the New Gods, which means that not only do the usual afterlives and such exist (despite the propensity for coming back from the dead in superhero comics), but there's even more than we think, and they're so much stranger than our real-world beliefs.
