10 Reasons John Stewart Needs To Be The Cinematic Green Lantern
6. He's An Everyman
One of the key traits of a Green Lantern is being able to create mystical constructs from thin air. Interestingly, everything John builds is solid, which undoubtably comes from his background as an engineer and an architect.
Unsurprisingly, it’s not the exciting things he shapes that makes John Stewart’s character fascinating, it’s the everyman background that drives them. He’s just a normal guy who’s thrust into an extraordinary role, something a lot of film audiences could relate to.
Stewart is not a rich businessman, alien, or royal monarch; he’s a Marine engineer from Michigan who wants to see the right thing done and now has the power to do it. Against the epic might of the Justice League, audiences don’t need Hal Jordan’s reckless humour, but a POV character that can appreciate the scope of what they’re experiencing without acting like it's not a big deal. Stewart is just such a relatable character who isn't afraid to ask the questions you want answered.
