10 Spider-Man Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die
2. The Alien Costume Saga
Every Spider-Man fan should know the story of the Alien Costume Saga off by heart by now. When he returns from Battleworld with a fetching black outfit, Peter Parker's life is turned upside down as it turns out his new duds are actually alive and slowly but surely taking over. Freeing himself from this waking nightmare, the symbiote seeks out another host, and when it finds Eddie Brock, the terror that is Venom is unleashed on the Marvel-Verse.
What a lot of people may not know (or may know, depending) is that it wasn't anyone within the ranks of Marvel that came up with the idea to give Peter a black costume, but a fan called Randy Schueller, who would sell it to them for the massive payday of $220.00.
Just think of that, $220.00 for an idea that has undoubtedly made them millions. Schueller's story is really fascinating, as he was even offered the chance to write for Marvel after giving them idea, but it didn't work out in the end.
Either way, this year-long storyline would be well received and roundly praised for its handling of Peter's and Mary Jane's relationship on a more mature level. It would also go on to feature in the animated series as well as popping up in Spider-Man 3, making it one of the most iconic story-arcs in the wall-crawler's library.
