The aptly-named 'Tattooed Man' was an enemy of Green Lantern Hal Jordan who had the strange ability to bring his tattoos to life. Exposed to chemicals that allowed him to mentally conjure dragons, swords, guns, shields, and more from the ink on his body, Abel Tarrant became a formidable but completely bizarre foe for the Lantern.

First appearing in 1963, he would build up a criminal career for decades before being offered the chance at reform by the Suicide Squad. Whilst in prison, he also met another convict interested in his tattoo powers and decided to mentor him. However, the criminal - John Oakes - was actually working for the Yakuza and managed to siphon off some of Tarrant's powers. He later escaped and became a new Tattooed Man, leaving Tarrant imprisoned and bitter.

Offered the chance at freedom by Task Force X, he proceeded on a mission with Mirror Master, Punch, and Jewelee but betrayed them, using his animation powers to murder Punch. In the conflict, Mirror Master quietly killed him in retaliation.

Another Tattooed Man, Mark Richards, surfaced as an occasional Suicide Squad member. However, he's most famous for his brutal killing of Slipknot - the villain who had murdered his son. Richards would go on to become a more heroic Tattooed Man after decapitating Slipknot, but his villainous legacy will live on.

Another version of the character appeared in 2016's Suicide Squad played by Common, under the moniker 'Monsta T'. He was promptly killed by the Joker for inexplicable reasons.
