10 Superheroes Who Are Literal Gods

4. Doctor Strange

Marvel ComicsMarvel ComicsStephen Strange, former surgeon and current Sorcerer Supreme, has had some pretty mind-bending powers since his introduction to Marvel Comics back in the sixties. His mystical abilities allowed him to channel the Vishanti, a trio of godly beings (Agamotto, Hoggoth, and Oshtur) whose powers he could tap into, and has even called upon other gods from time to time. He has his own magical know-how too, including being able to travel across the astral plane in a non-corporeal form, to banish menaces to other dimensions, flight, psychic powers, and is even able to control time if he concentrates really, really hard. Like Storm, though, those are more god-like powers than the actual powers of a god. And, like Storm, Strange got his already formidable skill set upgraded a bunch so that is now essentially a god. The good Doctor has always boasted the skill of absorbing, through sheer force of will, the superpowers and magical abilities of others. After a series of incursions into our dimension by otherworldly, dark magical beings, he realised that he needed to up his game considerably, or else lose his title of Sorcerer Supreme. As Barry Bonds took some pharmaceutical aids to improve his baseball playing, so did Strange go an illicit route to get the sort of power he needed. Using the evil magical tome the Blood Bible (with a name like that we maybe don't need to specify it's evil nature) he travelled to the Sinner's Market, where he was offered godhood if he sold his soul. Which he did because, honestly, that strikes us a pretty good deal and we would've probably taken it. And our souls are in tip-top condition, so really it's a win-win for everyone.
