Little known facts about Marvel's most famous sorcerer.
Having first appeared in Strange Tales #110 in July of 1963, Marvel's Doctor Strange has gone on to become the most famous magic user in comics. Indeed, he has become one of Marvel's most popular characters - period - and with good reason. The good Doctor - real name Stephen Strange - is an extremely interesting character. Having been an arrogant and selfish surgeon, Strange lost the use of his hands in an accident and sought out the means to fix them. In doing so, he became embroiled in the world of magic and the rest is history. Mentored by the powerful Ancient One, he went on to become the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe and resides in his mystically hidden Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City. His role become that of the protector of the universe from the forces of dark magic and regularly clashes with powerful foes like Dormammu and Baron Mordo. He is now coming to the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, having been hinted at in movies like Thor and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role from 2016.
