10 Things Everyone Always Forgets About Daredevil

8. Kingpin’s Vendetta Against Daredevil

Daredevil Prison
Marvel Comics

Although he started as a Spider-Man villain and continues to plague Peter’s life, it is Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime who has had some of the most devastating effects on the life of Matt Murdock. Before he had even become Daredevil, Fisk cost Murdock his job at a prestigious law firm because the hero was rescuing a girl kidnapped by Kingpin’s thugs and he missed a legal appointment.

It was Karen Page’s selling of Daredevil’s identity that provided the best opportunity for the Kingpin. He kept the knowledge to himself and used it to play chess with the hero’s life. Fisk systematically destroyed Murdock’s life, taking his law firm, his identity, his finances, many of his relationships, and finally, his home.

Through sheer determination, Daredevil overcame the Kingpin and christened himself the new Kingpin of Hell’s Kitchen, preventing any crime from occurring in the area, no matter how small. This, along with the death of Elektra and dealing with being publicly outed, began to deteriorate Matt's mental state, and he was put into prison by the FBI. These charges were eventually dropped, especially since “Daredevil” (actually Iron Fist) was still patrolling Hell’s Kitchen.
