To further add to the transcendent nature of the New Gods, the Multiversity storyline revealed that the New Gods reside in a realm outside all DC Universes; a realm known as the Sphere of the Gods. The 2007 limited series, written by DC guru Grant Morrison, revolved around the invasion of the DC multiverse by a race of cosmic parasites known as the Gentry.

These otherworldly beings were drawn to the group of realms by their collective despair, and this forced heroes from different universes to band together and form the Justice Incarnate team to combat this existential threat. In the middle of all these universe-shaking events, the Multiversity arc revealed several key aspects about the multiverse, and DC Comics as a whole.

Chief among them was the residence of the New Gods, which further added to the idea that the divine extra-terrestrials are actually conceptual entities come to life. The Sphere of the Gods is so far removed from the normal DC multiverse, the only realms beyond are the Monitor Sphere and the Source itself.
