9. Black Kryptonite
The black strain of Kryptonite first appeared in the TV series Smallville and has the ability to split conflicting personalities within Kryptonians into separate physical forms. Similarly to the Synthetic Kryptonite in Superman III that causes Superman to split into personalities of good and evil.
In the season 4 episode, ‘Crusade,’ Martha Kent used the dark chunk of rock to separate Clark from his emotionless Kryptonian Kal-El persona. In season 8 it was revealed the black mineral worked on all things Kryptonian when they were able to separate the monster Doomsday from its human host.
Black Kryptonite has since gone on to make appearances in the comics, such as in Supergirl #2, where Kal's cousin was separated into 2 personalities by Lex Luthor.
