In a story where Superman fights a great big ape, when the fact that Superman fights a great big ape isn't the weirdest part of the story, you know you've found yourself some derp treasure. In Superman #127 (1959), Supes battles Titano, who is, if you haven't guessed by now, a great big ape, one with Kryptonite vision and a love of saying the word 'YEEP'. Using a combination of a giant drum, a giant baby rattle and huge leaden goggles (yup), Superman throws the ape through a time barrier to the prehistoric age where Superman says he'll be fine. Of course, since there were no giant apes in prehistoric times, Titano is destined to die, probably violently, probably afraid, definitely the last of his species. But that won't do, audiences need the mercy shot, so, in the issue's last panel, Superman looks through time to see that, yes, Titano's having a great time. Wait, what? Look through time? Bizarrely, the editors at DC realised that 'looking through time' was a bananas concept even for them and so they changed it when the story was republished in Giant Superman Annual #2. They changed it to Super-Imagination. What is Super-Imagination? A quick Super-Hunch suggests that it might just be normal imagination, and maybe everyone should just not think about comics so much. It's fine, Lois! Titano's safe, because Superman thought about it for a bit and why the f*** not?!
