11 Comic Book Characters Who Underwent Horrifying Transformations
1. Joker Has His Face Cut Off
When the DC Universe rebooted itself, a lot of readers were curious what the writers were going to do with the Joker? In the very first issue of Batman, the Joker... allowed his own face to be cut off... Even by Joker standards, that's pretty insane.
The Joker returned a year later in the story, Death of the Family, wearing his own face as a mask. This story was only made in 2013 but it is already considered a classic, mainly because of the Joker's sickening look.
Looking at the artwork of this incarnation of the Joker can be hard to stomach. Flies buzzing around his infected dead flesh. Rotten yellow teeth. Maggots squirming out of the seams. Layers of visible muscle jutting out of his skin. It's enough to make any reader feel queasy.
But if you think the grossness is over after the Joker is beaten, you'd be wrong. Once Batman defeats his nemesis, a lunatic calling herself The Joker's Daughter finds the Joker's face and wears it as a mask to pay tribute to her "father". I mean, I know she's nuts but that's REALLY unsanitary. How much bacteria and germs do you think are on that thing?
