Wilson Fisk was shaken by his wife's death. His henchmen catch him from time to time talking to Vanessa as if she is still alive.

You can't blame Fisk for being unable to resolve his grief. It's hard for anyone to get over a death. However, it's much harder for Fisk to get over Vanessa's demise since The Hand resurrected her as a zombie assassin to kill the Kingpin. The Hand believed she was the perfect assassin since Fisk wouldn't lay a finger on her.

Or so The Hand thought. As he was being attacked by his wife, Fisk realised that Vanessa deserved to be at peace. He knew she wouldn't want to be used as a tool for The Hand and so, put her out of her misery.

Now, fighting your zombie wife is a bit unorthodox but it's not too bizarre in the world of comics. However, Kingpin killed his dead wife AGAIN three years later.

In the Spider-Man story, The Clone Conspiracy (because, as we all know, everyone loves Spider-Man clone stories), the Jackal seized control of the city. Knowing that Fisk wouldn't budge, Jackal created a clone of Vanessa, allowing Fisk to be reunited with her if he walked away from his criminal empire.

As Fisk embraced Vanessa once more, he realised that she was just a shell that could never replace his wife. To show that he would never bow to the Jackal, the Kingpin defiantly snapped Vanessa's neck.
