4. Batman: Knightfall
Batman: Knightfall is a story that takes place over approximately six months and sees the Dark Knight suffering from a burnout and subsequently being assaulted and crippled by Bane - a super-steroid enhanced genius - just a few months after his initial introduction.
The story had major ramifications with regard to the whole Batman mythology, as he had to regain trust from the public, the police and fellow superheroes. It also laid the foundations for the creation of the modern Batman family.
