8 Strangest Alternate Versions Of Beloved Superheroes

4. Bat-Man Batman

Batman Scar of the Bat
DC Comics

There are lots of weird and wonderful alternate versions of Batman floating around both inside and outside of the DC canon, ranging anywhere from communist Batman in Red Son, to vampire Batman in Blood Rain, Superman-Batman in Speeding Bullets, priest Batman in Holy Terror, Zebra Batman - seriously just Google it - to the straight up Nazi Batman of Earth-10.

However, one of the more obscure and also one of the most batsh*t insane (if you'll excuse the pun) pops up in the Elseworlds story "Batman: Scar of the Bat". This story, set in late 1920's see's Eliot Ness (yes, that Eliot Ness, leader of real life law enforcement team The Untouchables) deciding to dress up a bat and take the fight to Capone, armed with nothing except a tommy gun and a homemade bat costume, all because he's really ticked off about crime and... watched a film about Zorro?

Seriously, this is his actual justification and the genuine plot of the comic book. There is literally zero reference to Bruce Wayne, The Joker, Gotham – anything even loosely related to the Batman mythos. Eliot Ness (again, it bears repeating, the real guy, who really got Al Capone put in prison, in real life) just decides, enough is enough, I'm gonna dress up as a bat and murder some gangsters.

Oh, and to make it even stranger, this version of Batman is only called Batman because he uses a bat at the start of the story. He dresses up like a bat, wields a bat and so calls himself Batman. Once again, this is a real, genuine story published by DC Comics.
