8 Times MCU Cast Members Worked Together Elsewhere
1. Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Lee Pace, Evangeline Lily, Andy Serkis, And Richard Armitage - The Hobbit
Boasting more MCU veterans than any other, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings prequel trilogy tops this list, with no fewer than eight cast members to have crossed the line from Marvel to Middle Earth. Eight actors, yet none of the three films feature every one.
Five actors appear in all three of the Hobbit movies. Obviously Martin Freeman appeared as Bilbo Baggins before taking on the role of Everett K. Ross in Civil War and Black Panther. Joining him throughout the entire trilogy are Cate Blanchett before appearing as Hela, Lee Pace before and after bringing Ronan the Accuser to life. Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard Armitage round out the group.
Marvel's Stephen Strange portrayed Smaug the Magnificent only in The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies, but he is also credited as the Necromancer in An Unexpected Journey. Richard Armitage, the year before taking on the role of Thorin Oakenshield, appeared in the The First Avenger as the man who killed Dr. Erskine.
The original Red Skull, Hugo Weaving, reprised his role as Elrond from the Lord of the Rings trilogy in An Unexpected Journey and The Battle of the Five Armies, while Andy Serkis brought Gollum back for just the former. Finally, appearing in the last two Hobbit movies, Evangeline Lilly portrayed Tauriel the elf before becoming the Wasp in the MCU.
