The Martian, released in 2015, is a movie with so many MCU stars it would almost be easier to name the cast members that do not have any Marvel movies under their belts. No fewer than six of the cast of The Martian have appeared in the MCU.
Sebastian Stan (Chris Beck), aside from the Captain America trilogy, appears in both Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, along with Benedict Wong (Bruce Ng), who starred with Chiwetel Ejiofor (Vincent Kapoor) in Doctor Strange in 2016. Chris Beck’s astronaut buddy Rick Martinez is played by Ant-Man meme legend Michael Pena, and excitable youngster Rich Purnell is played by Donald Glover, who brings Aaron Davis to life in Spider-Man Homecoming.
Finally, the main character Mark Watney, is played by Matt Damon. The biggest name on The Martian’s cast list has the smallest MCU role out of all of them, surprising audiences everywhere appearing as an Asgardian actor playing Loki in Thor: Ragnarok. In years to come this will surely rank on anyone’s list of most bizarre cameos.
