Birds Of Prey - Every Character Explained

We all know about Harley Quinn, but what’s going on with the rest of Birds Of Prey’s cast?

After a couple of tantalising teasers, we’ve recently gotten the first full trailer for Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. Not only is the trailer light on spoilers, it’s big on character, and makes the film look colourful, cinematic and charming.

Of course, judging a film on its trailer - either good or bad - is tenuous at best. Who knows, maybe Cats and Sonic The Hedgehog will be the two best films of next year and will sweep every category at the Oscars. Probably not, though.

While Birds Of Prey’s trailer certainly looks gorgeous and is building good momentum, there is another factor stopping many people from getting over excited: they simply don’t know who these characters are.

Harley Quinn is a fairly major comic book character and has Suicide Squad in her favour, but the rest aren’t so lucky. The trailer gives us snapshots of all the major players, but doesn’t exactly fall over itself trying to establish them. If you’re still not quite sure who everyone is, just need a refresher or want to scan with a fine tooth comb for minuscule errors, look no further.

9. Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn needs no introduction. She’s the biggest name in the film, the only character previously established from Suicide Squad and gets the lion’s share of the trailer. Given that she’s the most marketable character in the movie, that’s no surprise.

In fact, following the DCEU’s repeated failures to cash in on Batman & Superman’s huge name brand recognition, Harley might be DC’s most marketable character out of anyone right now, at least on the silver screen.

Just in case all that didn’t convince us that Birds Of Prey would be Harley centric, the obnoxiously long subtitle ‘And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn’ removes all doubt.

Still, there’s some intrigue remaining, even if she gets far more limelight than the other characters combined. The trailer is surprisingly light on plot or spoilers, which will hopefully continue right up until the film’s release in February 2020. There’s still a lot of unanswered questions about what precisely Harley’s role will be in the movie.

She’s not one of the Birds in the comic, even serving as the Birds’ antagonist before. With a few villains already crammed in here though (more on them soon) it appears she’s heading for an antihero arc this time around.
