8. Taking On The Skrull Single-Handedly - Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is a comic that looks set to heavily influence the MCU over the course of its highly-anticipated fourth phase, and with the Skrull being introduced in Captain Marvel this March, it seems apt to take a look at the time she halted their invasion of Earth in its tracks.
The storyline in question saw dozens of famous Marvel characters impersonated by the shapeshifting race, but by the time they decided to make their operation public, the remaining Avengers were ready and raring to take a stand. Leading the charge was Carol Danvers in her Warbird persona, and even though she was briefly taken down by Nick Fury, who thought she was actually a Skrull, Carol got back to her feet and got to work taking on the alien fleet on her own.
Utilising her powers of super-strength, speed and flight, as well as her trademark photonic blasts, Carol lays waste to hundreds of Skrull soldiers and ships, and was likely the biggest influence in changing the tide of the battle over New York in that event.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir.
