Damian Wayne Returns From The Dead!
DC Comics have announced a mini-series starring the (supposedly) dead Damian Wayne, set for release later this year, according to an exclusive at the NY Post. Back in February this year, Damian Wayne, the latest Robin and Batman/Bruce Waynes biological son, was killed in the pages of Grant Morrisons Batman Incorporated #8, an event that was reported on major news networks around the world. Fans of the character mourned the loss and DC ran a brief remembrance series in their Bat-titles called Requiem. But the old rule of comics that no one stays dead except Uncle Ben has come true once again as DC have announced they will be running a 4-issue miniseries starring Damian, written and drawn by Andy Kubert, later this year. Damian: Son of Batman will be set in the future where an adult Damian is the Batman, in a series that appears to be an alternate timeline rather than part of established continuity. The adult-Damian-as-Batman storyline has been explored in Morrisons Batman run, first in Batman #666, drawn by Kubert, and most recently in Batman Incorporated #5 where Gotham City is on fire and Damian/Batman and Commissioner Barbara Gordon are under siege in Arkham Asylum from an army of Joker zombies. Of the series, Kubert said:
"I had a big affinity for Damian when I drew Batman issue #666 (in 2007). I really liked that Batman and always wanted to revisit him. Damian is a bit different than the Bruce Wayne Batman. Grant Morrison tweaked his character in a way that made it very endearing for me to draw. And to write. Basically, what I'm doing is exploring the path that Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before, he added.Of course Damian isnt the first Robin to come back from the dead. Jason Todd, the second Robin, came back in 2005s Batman: Under the Red Hood despite being killed by the Joker in Batman: A Death in the Family in 1988, and Stephanie Brown, the fourth Robin, died in 2004s Batman: War Games, came back in 2008, and was promptly killed off again! Good news then for fans of the character, although whether Damian will feature beyond this miniseries in DCs New 52 lineup, is yet to be decided. Damian: Son of Batman #1 goes on sale October 30.
