Every television series eventually must come to an end (unless you're the Simpsons). This has been the case for numerous superhero shows, which constantly come and go.

While this is common place in the television industry, there have been some cancellations that have been met with scrutiny. This is mainly due to the fact that an awful lot of superhero cartoons get cancelled before their time. Other times it is simply because their replacement is subpar compared to the one that preceded it.

There are a variety of reasons that reboots and replacements do not meet the level of what came before. This could be due to different tones, writing differences or major changes to the mythos that leave fans with a sour taste in their mouths.

Many superheroes have received a number of reboots and new adaptations in cartoon form over the years. There are a number of different choices that could have been selected for this article, however these seven stand out as strokes of genius in the cartoon realm that were replaced with something much, much worse.

7. Batman: The Brave And The Bold Replaced By Beware The Batman

After adaptations such as Batman: The Animated Series and The Batman, it was pleasant to watch a campier side of Batman. Batman: The Brave and the Bold focused on Batman's team-ups with superheroes from various parts of the DC Universe, including heroes such as Green Arrow, Plastic Man and Aquaman.

The series tied closer to the Silver Age of the fifties and sixties than the darker, more modern stories that have involved the Caped Crusader. While the animation had no overarching plot, it focused on a different story and team-up per episode, much like the source material that was used for inspiration.

The Brave and the Bold was a breath of fresh air for fans who loved the classic comic book team-ups, and were getting tired of every adaption of Batman being grim and full of brooding.

After three seasons, The Brave and the Bold was replaced by Beware the Batman, which focused on the Caped Crusader in his early years of crime fighting. Beware the Batman received criticism from fans for having Alfred in a more active role, while featuring Katana as Batman's sidekick rather than Robin. The use of D-list villains was also criticised by fans who yearned to see A-listers make an appearance.

While the grim CGI animation did have its moments, and gave some more unknown characters a chance to shine despite only lasting one season, it did not reach the heights of The Brave and the Bold, which tied closer to the comics and had a more adoring fan base.
