Spider-Man: The Animated Series was one of the best adaptations of the Wall Crawler, as it was heavily influenced by the comic book storylines and constantly gave justice to the source material. It introduced nineties kids to the Spider-Man mythos, while having a good combination of tones as the series could shift from a serious tone to a lighthearted one whenever the story required.

Another draw was the characters, with Venom and the Green Goblin being particular highlights. Crossovers were also a constant, with characters such as the X-Men, Iron Man and Captain America appearing whenever it fit the story. The series remains one of the most loved adaptations of the Web Slinger, and gave fans their first experience with the idea of a Spider-Verse.

While having a decent tenure, chalking up an incredible five seasons and ending the series with a brilliant two hour series finale, many were disappointed when the series came to an end. Fans were even more disappointed when they discovered Spider-Man Unlimited, the replacement for the much beloved series.

Spider-Man Unlimited was based on another Earth called Counter-Earth. On this Earth, Spider-Man battles Venom and Carnage and encounters Beastials, animal/humanoid hybrids who are the dominant species on the planet. Sounds crazy, right?

Unlimited unsurprisingly did not perform well, and was ultimately canned after a mere 13 episodes. It would not be until Spectacular Spider-Man that Spider-Man was given justice once more on the small screen.
