Stan Lee's 20 Greatest Marvel Comics Creations
8. Thor
Thor is another character that might surprise you with his relatively low ranking, until you read through a realise just how many iconic characters Lee created. A founding member of the Avengers, Thor is possibly the strongest character ever to have assembled, with a host of individual feats to back that up.
There’s Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, which when added to his power make him almost unstoppable. Especially if he’d gone for the head...
On top of that, there’s also his ability to wield electricity and fly. In the MCU he’s beaten Hulk and taken the force of a star, but in the comics he’s gone above and beyond. He’s lifted the Midgard Serpet (which weighs 324 quintillion tonnes) and once closed a wormhole by punching it. Hardcore.
It’s not just his physical strength though; that’s hardly a rarity for a comic book character. As referenced in the Loki entry, Lee’s use of Norse mythology when building the Asgardian narrative draws readers in with its richness. It’s such a deep backstory that even over 50 years after Thor debut, new writers and plumbing to unexplored depths.
