What Happened To Everyone Who Became Batman?

Although Knightfall became a massive success when it was first published, Bruce Wayne would remain Batman for almost the next two decades. Given how it went the last time he was replaced, though, it makes sense as to why that would be the case - after all, if he didn't choose the right person to replace him the first time around, how could he possibly trust himself to get it right further down the line?

Eventually, Wayne was killed off proper in Grant Morrison's mind-bending Final Crisis. Morrison, who was also presiding over an epic run on Batman at the time, only had one candidate in mind to replace him, but that didn't stop DC from having some fun with a literal Battle for the Cowl, a crossover storyline that showcased different members of the Bat-Family attempt to ensure Wayne's legacy remained intact.

They all reacted in their own way to the trauma, but there was one who actually saw Bruce's death as an opportunity - Jason Todd.

Todd wasn't actually a member of the 'family' at this point, operating instead as an antihero with little love for his adoptive father, and fashioned a Batsuit of his own, hoping to apply his lethal tactics as Red Hood to the mantle of the Dark Knight. This didn't end so well for Jason, with Bruce's other sons rising up to take him down, but the event may as well be a distant memory now, with Todd having ingratiated himself to the Bat-Family in the New 52 and DC Rebirth continuities as a slightly more heroic version of Red Hood.
