Even with X-Men: Apocalypse not yet in cinemas in North America (sometimes it's great to be British), Fox are already making plans for the rest of their extended universe. We already have Gambit and Deadpool and Wolverine sequels on the way (and there will be more X-Men films, undoubtedly), and of course Josh Boone's New Mutants is on its way too.
So far, information has been limited: we've seen Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy linked to roles, and Boone has teased the mutant line-up (Magik, Mirage, Sunspot, Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Warlock. But beyond that it's all rumours, with both James McAvoy's Professor X and Alexandra Shipp's Storm heavily linked.
The former would require a new contract for McAvoy (and presumably also Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender), but the latter is a lot easier, given the character's debut in Apocalypse.
Now Shipp has revealed that she'd be up for a cameo in New Mutants thanks to aninterview with IGN:
I can't say very much about New Mutants, but it would be awesome to do a little cameo, a little Where's Waldo?, Where's Ororo? in the background. I love Storm as a character. I'd love to reprise her in many different movies and be able to show people different sides of her because she is so multidimensional and I think that the people who love Storm at least as much as I do, really want to see that. We want to see Storm killin' it and kickin' ass. That's the best thing about her, how amazing and powerful she is."
We certainly do. She does get a chance to show off her powers in Apocalypse, and the effects work is great. She also looks great, despite Apocalypse's redesigned suits making all of his Horsemen look like bondage fans.
Fox would be mad not to have cameos of the main X-Men team in New Mutants: it's an extended universe film but it still blossoms from the same source (Xavier's School), and having everyone absent will just make it look like Deadpool's X-Mansion sequence where it was played for laughs.
